Venice Nightlife

There are restaurants of all kinds for you to dine in, pubs to have a drink in and clubs to have fun in. Venice has it all so after a full day of sightseeing put on your very best clothes and get out into the nightlife that Venice has to offer.

Venice Sightseeing & Venice islands

Venetia Ghetto

Venice's Ghetto was the first segregated Jewish community in Europe. It was created by the Venetian Republic in 1516 to placate the Roman Catholic Church, which had forced the expulsion of Jews from many European countries. (The Venetians were more interested in wealth on Earth than in religious ideology; if creating a nighttime dormitory quarter was required to keep a community of Jewish financiers and goldsmiths intact, that was good enough for the Republic).

Venice Sightseeing

Piazza San Marco
The Piazza San Marco, or St. Mark's Square, is one of the world's great squares. It's also a honeypot for swarms of daytrippers and other tourists, but don't let that bother you: The square is vast, the crowds are good-natured, and backpackers coexist peacefully with the well-heeled tourists who enjoy overpriced drinks and orchestral music at the café tables.

Eating & Drinking in London

There’s never been a better time to eat out in London. British cooking is better than it has ever been, and the capital still has some of the best ethnic restaurants of any city in the world.

Shopping in London

One of the word’s most exciting retail centers, London is also one of the most varied. The shopping scene spans multicultural street markets and deluxe department stores, cutting-edge fashion designers and traditional tailors, smart food shops and tiny delis.

MUSEUMS AND ART GALLERIES
When it comes to sightseeing, you are spoiled for choice. Indoors or outdoors, underground or overground, traditional English heritage or modern European attitude- all are on offer here.
But be sure to pace yourself: some of the venues detailed in these pages, such as the British Museum, can’t be covered in a morning.

Discover Venice

Venice from the look of it, you'd think Venice spent all its time primping. Bask in the glory of Grand Canal palaces, but make no mistake: this city's a powerhouse. You may have heard that Venice is an engineering marvel, with marble churches built atop ancient posts driven deep into the barene (mud banks) – but the truth is that this city is built on sheer nerve. Reasonable people might blanch at water approaching their doorsteps and flee..

Rialto Food Market-Venice

The Rialto Food Markets are working makets where Venetian homemakers and restaurant owners do their shopping six days a week. There are two markets, both slightly to the north of the Rialto Bridge in San Polo:
The Erberia sells fruit and vegetables, with wholesalers arriving early and retailers setting
up their stalls by mid-morning. By noon, most of the action is over, so arrive early for shopping and discreet picture-taking.
Just beyond, in a building with arches that overlooks the Grand Canal, vendors in the Pescheria or fish market sell fish, octopus, squid, clams, and other aquatic edibles.
Tourists love the Pescheria (and the Erberia, for that matter), but before bellying up to the crushed-ice trough to take a snapshot, remember that the person you're elbowing out of the way may be a chef who's trying to buy the sardines or cuttlefish that you'll be eating for dinner.

Albert Memorial
This memorial was not of Albert’s wish; nevertheless it is very impressive and is, if anything, a memorial to Victorian arts and crafts. The Prince Consort (1816-1861) sits under a canopy holding the catalogue to the Great Exhibition of 1851, beneath him is a high relief frieze of 200 figures: musicians, poets, painters etc.
